About
I've been a dedicated Android user since 1.5, but recently was gifted a Microsoft Surface for my 33rd birthday. As I stepped into the world of Windows RT, I discovered a lot that I liked. As advertised, Windows RT really does begin to open the door to combining the best of desktop and tablet computing. As impressed as I was with Ice Cream Sandwich on my phone and Nexus 7, there really wasn't anything comparable to firing up the full fledged Office suite on my Surface. This is not to mention the fact that I loved seeing old friends like Control Panel and Task Manager on my tablet ;)
At the same time, as many have already argued, Windows RT faces a mountain to climb. It's not on a whole lot of devices, and if its strength is the ability to draw the familiarity of Windows into the ARM powered tablet world, its glaring weakness is its inability to run anything not specifically ARM-ready, limiting it to the few thousands of apps in the Windows App Store.
With all that said, after a few weeks of keeping tabs on Windows RT and Surface news, I've come to realize that aside from the hullabaloo surrounding the Surface's initial launch, coverage by the major news outlets on not only the Surface but also Windows RT has been somewhat lacking. It's like everyone posted their official reviews and now only bother to report on the Surface when Ballmer says something underwhelming or someone gets a defective Touch Cover. The lone exception to this: Shiny Surface. They've really been killing it in terms of regular news updates about the Surface, and their YouTube channel has been my best friend for the past few weeks. If you're a Surface owner you have to check them out.
Now it'll remain to be seen whether the world really needs a blog dedicated to Windows RT and the devices that run on it, but I figured if I'm going to be spending a bunch of time scouring the web for RT related news anyway, I might as well share it via a blog.
So here it is, An Arm and a Windows.
